The Festival Days at the Berlin State Opera present great music each year around the Easter holidays.
The Festtage ("festival days") at the Berlin State Opera are an opera festival created in 1996 by the opera's general music director Daniel Barenboim. Since its creation, the festival has offered outstanding musical theater and first-class concerts featuring international opera stars for an international audience. In addition to premieres, the festival also presents new stage adaptations of opera classics.
To kick things off, General Music Director Christian Thielemann will conduct Richard Strauss's “Der Rosenkavalier” in a production by multimedia artist André Heller. The program also includes the premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's “Un ballo in maschera” with Anna Netrebko, Charles Castronovo, and Ludovic Tézier. In addition, baritone Matthias Goerne will perform Franz Schubert's “Die schöne Müllerin” with Markus Hinterhäuser at the piano. On Good Friday, the Staatskapelle Berlin and the Staatsopernchor, conducted by Christian Thielemann, will perform Johannes Brahms' “Deutsches Requiem” at the Philharmonie Berlin.
