The KW Institute for Contemporary Art on Hackescher Markt is a firmly established fixture in the Berlin art scene, which fans of contemporary art should ignore.
For more than 30 years, KW (Kunst-Werke Berlin) has been giving contemporary artists a lively space to express themselves through exhibitions and various event formats in a former margarine factory. KW is also actively involved in the further development of the Berlin art scene through commissioned works.
Under the leadership of director Krist Gruijthuijsen, KW sees itself as a social space within which the themes and working methods of the artists can unfold. Political and social issues are addressed just as much as social developments. A visit to the institution is therefore always a challenge - or at least an invitation - to adopt new perspectives and reflect in depth on currently relevant topics.
