Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Functionalism, and Berlin Secession: The Bröhan Museum in Charlottenburg displays Karl H. Bröhan's expanded collection.

The collection of the Bröhan Museum. Art Nouveau Art Design offers a unique insight into the development of art in Berlin from the late 19th century to the Second World War. Special emphasis is placed on Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Functionalism, as well as the Berlin Secession.

Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Berlin Secession: Art in Transition

Curved lines, inspiration from nature, and new symmetries: visitors to the Bröhan Museum can trace how Art Nouveau found its way into various art and craft movements. Under the influence of modern, futuristic art, Art Deco developed particularly in France. At the Bröhan Museum, numerous works by artists such as Jean Puiforcat, Jacques Émile Ruhlmann, and Gerrit Rietveld bear witness to this development. Finally, a rich collection of paintings and prints gives visitors an understanding of the Berlin Secession and its turn toward Expressionism.

Highlights at the Bröhan Museum

The furniture ensemble by Alfred Grenander (circa 1900), the porcelain figures by Agathon Léonard (1899), and the painting "Im romanischen Café" (In the Romanesque Café) by Willy Jaecke (1912) are just a few of the highlights of the collection at the Bröhan Museum. The museum's Art Nouveau porcelain collection is also particularly extensive, representing the most important manufacturers in Germany, France, and Scandinavia.
