From Thursday, motorists in Berlin will need to be prepared for a number of restrictions.
The Traffic Information Centre (VIZ) has announced that the first road closures for Sunday’s half marathon will be put in place on Thursday 26 March in Tiergarten.
Firstly, from Thursday, Unter den Linden will be closed in both directions between Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße and the Brandenburg Gate. On Friday, 27 March, the entire start and finish area will then be closed to private and public transport. The roads affected will be Ebertstraße, Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße, Heinrich-von-Gagern-Straße, Annemarie-Renger-Straße, Paul-Löbe-Allee, Scheidemannstraße and John-Foster-Dulles-Allee.
On Sunday, the entire running route will be closed to traffic. The closure begins at 7.45 am, approximately 90 minutes before the inline skaters set off. The route runs from Straße des 17. Juni via Ernst-Reuter-Platz, Charlottenburg Palace, Schloßstraße, Kurfürstendamm, Wittenbergplatz, Nollendorfplatz, Potsdamer Platz, Werderscher Markt, Strausberger Platz, Alexanderplatz and Unter den Linden to the Brandenburg Gate. The road sections will be reopened gradually once the last runners have passed and the route has been cleared. The VIZ advises motorists to use public transport, particularly at weekends. Alternatively, they should use the A100 city motorway, the Tiergarten Tunnel (B96) and the tunnel at Adenauerplatz.
