Dark Matter: Forest Seasons

The Dark Matter art gallery is transformed into a walk-in forest that changes with the seasons. The installation combines natural motifs, industrial architecture, and kinetic light art to create a multi-layered composition.

The installation by Berlin-based light and media artist Christopher Bauder is accompanied by a finely balanced composition by Dutch musician Chris Kuijten, whose soundscape combines abstract sound design with clear, recurring melodies.

Dark Matter's Forest Seasons from April 2026 in Berlin

Historically, the forest was long considered a place of danger and the unknown. It was not until the Romantic period and with advancing industrialization that this view changed: the forest became a place of longing and retreat, a counterpoint to the industrial-urban world, and advanced in art as a projection surface for myths and narratives.

Inspired by this, Forest Seasons unfolds a dynamic cycle of the seasons every 45 minutes, retelling spring, summer, autumn, and winter over and over again. Light, color, and movement reflect new beginnings, growth, farewells, and tranquility. Nature as a resonance chamber for human emotions.

Forest Seasons by Dark Matter invites visitors to immerse themselves in the natural cycle of the seasons and to experience the forest as an atmospheric place of longing.
