The federal state of Berlin plans to establish a documentation center at this former checkpoint that will unite various perspectives: personal histories, the German and the European dimension of division, and the global political context during the Cold War.
For 10 years now, the “Checkpoint Charlie Gallery,” an open-air exhibition by the organization Berliner Forum für Geschichte und Gegenwart e.V., has documented the history and the significance of this former border crossing point at the historical site with 320 info boards that include 175 large-format photos and brief descriptions in German and English.
